One of the most important element of a wedding? Your Photographer

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life and as the bride and groom you will be involved in so many of the main events that you don’t get to see the looks on your loved ones faces as you say your vows, nor do you see how much love is your own eyes as you look at your bride/groom. There are also so many candid shots that a talented photographer will take throughout the day; from getting ready, to ceremony and right through to the end of the reception. Finding the right photographer is something that I believe is very personal. Make sure you see as much of their work as possible, especially at pictures of weddings that have the same kind of venue type, ie…outdoor ceremony and reception, indoor ceremony and reception,  and pictures taken in as many different lights as possible. That way when you decide which photographer you choose to hire for your wedding you KNOW that they will take amazing shots, and they will become an important part of your memories of that special day. Another important thing that I feel is important is that you and your fiance’ feel comfortable around the photographer. When you are getting ready and having pictures taken you want to feel as comfortable as possible so that those “candid” shots look natural and amazing. You also want to feel really comfortable with your photographer when you take your first pictures as husband and wife. Those are some of the most intimate of times and usually the only other person besides the bride and groom for those first few minutes are their photographer.  A good photographer will know ways to make you comfortable, but having that feeling naturally makes for a whole new level of photographs.

Never Judge a Dress by its hanger

When I was planning my own wedding I knew exactly what type of dress I wanted. Off white, ballgown with off-the-shoulder sleeves. Nothing with bling of ANY KIND! I walked into that dress shop with that one dress in my head and nothing anyone could say would change a thing! I wanted the dress to be elegant, but for me to stand out more, and who better to decide what looks best on me than me? Well, after over ten slight variations of said dress I was frustrated and confused. I know it wasn’t me…..it was the designers. Yes, that was it for sure. My mother, being the amazing mom that she is calmed me down and told me she had picked out some dresses that she thought were “lovely”. Since she was paying for the dress and this moment can be just as, or more, emotional for mothers of the bride as the bride I allowed her to show me about the store. One after one, I shot them down. Already convinced that there was no way I would find THE dress and have it fitted in the four weeks until my wedding (yes, I said four weeks) I was pouting and dragging my feet. The dress she was most excited to show me was, as I remember her describing, had: beading, was strapless and get this! It had a sheer jacket! I took one look at the dress and immediately said no way. She begged me to at least try it on so I grudgingly went once again into the dressing room. As the dress went on I noticed the bridal consultant start to smile and as the sheer long sleeve “jacket went on I felt something special. I walked out of the dressing room and my mother and my aunt both took deep audible gasps out. I stood on the pedestal and turned around. I was speechless, and for me that is a miracle, for what I say in the mirror was not the dress I saw on the hanger. The jacket was cut so that was fitted on my arms and when it was cut so well it looked as though it was part of the dress! When off it was a simple sexy strapless dress that I could dance in. It was fun, yet ethereal. It was everything I ever wanted, I just didn’t know it until it was on. So that is why I tell brides to never judge a dress by its hanger. It could be THE one!
