I enjoyed this meeting of the creative and business minds and appreciated the makeup touch-up and a great photo for my business from Peridot Photography!

Last month I participated in a mock wedding and vendor showcase at the Des Moines Beach Park Event Center for the South King County Event and Wedding Vendors Meetup networking group . The Beach Park Event Center is a historic building that was completely refurbished and only recently had its grand opening in June. The amenities are modern, but it still holds its classic charm. I love the stained glass windows and exposed wood beams.

Daily Inspiration: Crisp and Clean, White and Green

Since my married last name is Green, I have a love of anything green and this is gorgeous!

Pearled Kiss Weddings & Events

Less is more….we have all heard this saying before. When applying this motto to wedding decor we automatically gear towards a white and green color scheme. No other color combination can embody class, crisp elegance, and sophisticated simplicity like these colors can. Also, many studies have showed that green is a color that relaxes the human eye immediately. So, having these colors won’t only make your event look stunning, but will also serve as therapeutic for any stress you or your guests may have.

Spotlight: Paula Demmer, Honeymoon and Destination Wedding Planner

The Peridot Photography Blog

Welcome back to my wedding industry spotlight series. For this article, I photographed and interviewed Paula Demmer, a travel consultant with Travel Leaders who specializes in planning honeymoons and destination weddings. Having never used a travel agent before, I had lots of questions for Paula.

How long have you been a travel professional?

I started out here in Tacoma 19 years ago assisting another travel agent after a condensed travel school.

How long have you been specializing in honeymoons and destination weddings?

I’ve been planning honeymoons all along. Honeymoons are always fun, and I like talking to the couples. I’ve been planning destination weddings for about 8 to 10 years. I’ve gradually been doing more and more destination weddings, partly as a result of my getting known for my skills and partly as people reach certain life categories or as a result of the economy, it becomes a consideration…

Daily Inspiration: Nautical Chic Extradionnaire

I really like this color combination. It is something you don’t usually see for a wedding, but it is a classic color combo and it works, works, works!

Pearled Kiss Weddings & Events

Last week we mentioned that if you want to make your event decor pop and standout in the most amazing way, pairing opposite colors as your color scheme is best. Last week we paired white and green for you. Now we pair up navy and yellow for a perfect combination of elegance, sophistication, and chic-ness. In this particular example, we have utilized these two great colors to set the stage for a Chic Nautical theme which is perfect for July/August Weddings! A great perk about working with yellow, especially during the summer time, is that there are an abundant number of flowers that are yellow. This way, you have a lot to work with. This theme and these colors are the best of both worlds because it prides itself in simplicity, and sophistication. So, you don’t really have to go out of your way to make your decor look outstanding…

Decor Highlight: Vintage Chic Table Setting

Pearled Kiss Weddings & Events

Vintage chic is currently a very popular theme for weddings, but the great thing is that even though it’s a very popular theme….each bride can make it their own, and have it be unique. The reason for this is because it is so versatile in colors. A wide range of colors, gives brides the opportunity to play with a LOT of flower types. Also vintage chic prides itself in elegance and simplicity, so it is a theme that won’t break your bank. In fact, you can find many of your decor accessories at thrift shops, or the very inexpensive section of craft stores. Here are some samples of vintage chic table settings. As you can see they are each very different, and unique in their own way.

Ombre has arrived in the wedding world and I am loving it…when it is done right

For a while now celebrities have been rockin’ the ombre look on the red carpets and the range of differences between the roots and the ends are unlimited. For those of you that are not familiar with the traditional look of the “Ombre”  hairstyle, it is when the hair color gradually changes from the natural hair color at the roots to a lighter color at the ends. It is supposed to mimic the sun-kissed look of the good ol’ days when we spent every day in the sun without products that protected out hair from the damaging affects. It has evolved into a whole new animal and it is now a hot trend in the wedding/event industry. I have seen some really amazing ombre wedding inspired items that I wanted to share with you. The first two pics are examples of the hairstyle for those who are not familiar it. The third picture is a great way to bring ombre to the bridesmaid’s dresses; having them buy different dresses that are similar in style and make sure that one is pale and then each one gets a little darker/brighter. The color difference is slights so that many people might not notice at first, but will understand once they see a centerpiece like the fourth picture if they don’t walk by the wedding cake in the fifth picture first. The centerpiece is so beautiful and the theme was even used with the pale pink tablecloth with deeper pink tea lights. The favor boxes are even colored in the ombre theme! The last pic is the ombre wedding cake and it is to die for! I love that they didn’t take it too far and make the inside of the cake ombre, phew! The whole point of this isn’t to make you love ombre weddings, but it is about how anything you like, love or find hilarious, can be incorporated into your special day. It might not be right in front you, but that is what we do here at An Affair to Remember. Jaimee’s favorite part of planning a couples wedding is getting to know the couple, and as the planning process unfolds ideas evolve into something that is unique to each couple. That is what she loves about the event planning and production business and is what makes her so passionate about it. If you would like to meet with Jaimee and talk about your upcoming wedding or any other event please visit our website and fill out the contact form or give us a call! www.an-affair-to-remember.com

SJP elegant and trendsetting, as usual.

The gradual change is perfect.

The graduation of color is so beautiful. Even the favors are done in the ombre style/

Gorgeous ombre cake!

Mixing it up! Why pick just one color for your wedding?

Picking your wedding colors come easy to some couples, in fact I have known many brides that have had their wedding colors picked out since they were young girls! For those who are having a little trouble deciding between colors may I offer you this suggestion; pick several! One of the wedding trends that I love are how should I say this?…..well it is what it is; RAINBOW! Instead of  having six bridesmaids in the same color dress you can have each of them wearing a different color! If this is a little too much for you, have them wear black and then either have each of their bouquets a different color or a pop of color in the hair and shoes! My entire point to this very short post is this: Your wedding should be not only one of the most important days of your life, it should also be fun, and what better way to start it off that way is mixing it up a little. This can then be carried on to the reception with tables being named after the colors used and bring that color into the table as well. Again keeping with the same all-over look, but have that pop of color in the floral arrangements or napkins!

Never Judge a Dress by its hanger

When I was planning my own wedding I knew exactly what type of dress I wanted. Off white, ballgown with off-the-shoulder sleeves. Nothing with bling of ANY KIND! I walked into that dress shop with that one dress in my head and nothing anyone could say would change a thing! I wanted the dress to be elegant, but for me to stand out more, and who better to decide what looks best on me than me? Well, after over ten slight variations of said dress I was frustrated and confused. I know it wasn’t me…..it was the designers. Yes, that was it for sure. My mother, being the amazing mom that she is calmed me down and told me she had picked out some dresses that she thought were “lovely”. Since she was paying for the dress and this moment can be just as, or more, emotional for mothers of the bride as the bride I allowed her to show me about the store. One after one, I shot them down. Already convinced that there was no way I would find THE dress and have it fitted in the four weeks until my wedding (yes, I said four weeks) I was pouting and dragging my feet. The dress she was most excited to show me was, as I remember her describing, had: beading, was strapless and get this! It had a sheer jacket! I took one look at the dress and immediately said no way. She begged me to at least try it on so I grudgingly went once again into the dressing room. As the dress went on I noticed the bridal consultant start to smile and as the sheer long sleeve “jacket went on I felt something special. I walked out of the dressing room and my mother and my aunt both took deep audible gasps out. I stood on the pedestal and turned around. I was speechless, and for me that is a miracle, for what I say in the mirror was not the dress I saw on the hanger. The jacket was cut so that was fitted on my arms and when it was cut so well it looked as though it was part of the dress! When off it was a simple sexy strapless dress that I could dance in. It was fun, yet ethereal. It was everything I ever wanted, I just didn’t know it until it was on. So that is why I tell brides to never judge a dress by its hanger. It could be THE one!
